Group Description

*This group is primarily conducted online, with an in-person session offered once a month (see dates below).

Acceptance & Joy Recovery Community is a nonjudgmental, guilt and shame free, growth oriented, harm-reduction approach to addiction. Addiction is part of the issue but it is not the whole picture. We take a mental health approach and look at the pain underneath. Is this pain physical, emotional, trauma based? You will be in a safe environment and never pressured to share more than what you are comfortable with. You will be encouraged to find balance, structure, and routine in your life. It’s not about what you can’t do, it’s about what you can do. You will find joy in recovery and the little things in life. We are not trying to take something away from you, but rather we are trying to help you find what you are truly capable of.

*Group members MUST be sober for group and 24hrs prior to group, whether in person or virtual. This ensures we are respecting ourselves, our recovery, and others and their recovery.

In-Person Dates: (Fall 2025 dates will be released later this year)

  • 1/8/25
  • 2/5/25
  • 3/5/25
  • 4/2/25
  • 5/7/25
  • 6/4/25
  • 7/9/25

Key Objectives:

  • Experience a recovery community in a safe, nonjudgemental space, that will continue to challenge you and push your growth forward.
  • Viewing addiction from a neurological and mental health approach that will ask you to dig into the pain underneath your maladaptive coping behaviors.
  • Gain awareness of how guilt and shame impact our decisions and our recovery.
  • Psycho-education surrounding addiction and addictive behaviors and how these often run contrary to our values, integrating our past with the person we are longing to become, and finding out what your recovery means to you and what you need to be supported and successful.
  • Defining what balance, structure, and routine mean for you and how this can positively impact your recovery.
  • Expanding our window of distress tolerance and discovering ways to work with our minds and bodies instead of fighting against them.

Facilitator: This group is led by Aimee Steffen, Licensed Associate Counselor and Provisional Eligible Art Therapist, who specializes in substance abuse from a harm reduction approach.
